Family photography sessions are a wonderful way to capture memories with your loved ones. Whether it’s a special occasion or just a regular family portrait, choosing the right poses can help you achieve the perfect shot. However, when you have children in the family, it can be challenging to keep them engaged and interested in the photo shoot. In this blog post, we will explore different poses that families with children can use at their family photography session.
- The Group Hug
A group hug is a perfect pose for families with children. It’s an easy and natural way to capture the love and connection between family members. This pose can be done standing up or sitting down, and it’s a great way to bring everyone in close. Children especially love to be a little silly during sessions, and this is a beautiful way to capture their goofy personalities and the love the share for their parents and siblings!
- The Walking Shot
The walking shot is another great pose for families with children. This pose can be done while walking towards the camera or away from it. It’s a fun and dynamic way to capture the family’s movement and energy. You can even add a bit of playfulness to the shot by having the kids walk backwards or skip, bump bottoms or go for a piggy-back ride.
- The Candid Shot
Candid shots are perfect for capturing the natural moments between family members. You can ask the family to interact with each other while the photographer captures their candid moments. This pose can be done in a variety of settings, including sitting on a couch, playing in the park, or even cooking in the kitchen. Having older siblings pretend to tickle or play peek-a-boo with younger sliblings ususally gets everyone giggling, for a natural candid photograph.
- The Piggyback Ride
The piggyback ride is a classic pose that is perfect for families with younger children. This pose can be done with one parent carrying a child or even two children on each parent’s back. It’s a fun and playful pose that can capture the family’s laughter and joy.
- The Sitting Pose
The sitting pose is a classic pose that works well for families with children of all ages. You can have the family sit on a bench, a chair, or even on the ground. This pose is perfect for capturing the family’s relaxed and casual moments.
- Let Kids be Kids!
Children usually have their own idea of what is fun and what is not. I find that letting children play games, like ring around the roise, or tell me stories really captures their imagination and builds trust with me. So when we are ready to take that “formal portrait” they tend to be a little more willing to hold still for an extra second. They know we are about to do something really fun immediately after! It is a win-win for parents and children.
Family photography sessions are a great way to capture memories with your loved ones. When you have children in the family, it’s important to choose poses that are engaging and fun. The poses mentioned above are just a few examples of the many poses that families with children can use at their family photography session. Remember, the most important thing is to have fun and enjoy the moment with your family.
