Preparing for your Newborn Session

Wheaton Illinois Newborn Photographer

Congratulations on your new bundle of joy! As new parents, you are probably eager to capture every moment and milestone of your little one’s life, and a newborn photography session is a great way to do just that. But before you head to our studio, there are a few things you should know to ensure a successful and stress-free session. Here are some tips to help you prepare for your newborn session:

  1. Schedule the session early

Newborns grow and change so quickly, so it’s important to schedule your session within the first two weeks of your baby’s life. During this time, your baby will still be sleepy and easy to pose, which will make the session go more smoothly.

  1. Keep your baby well-fed and rested

Make sure your baby is well-fed and rested before the session. A full and sleepy baby is much easier to photograph than a hungry and fussy one. Try to time your session around your baby’s feeding and sleeping schedule so that they are comfortable and content during the shoot. We can always take a break to feed and change your little one as we go along with the session. Baby’s comfort is our biggest priority.

  1. Dress your baby in simple clothing

Newborns are beautiful just the way they are, so there’s no need to dress them in elaborate outfits or accessories. Simple clothing like onesies or swaddles in neutral colors will keep the focus on your baby’s natural beauty. I have a large selection of colorful and neutral wraps and neutral outfits for use at the studio. There is no need to go out and buy new items just for your session!

  1. Bring a few props or sentimental items

While simple is best, bringing a few sentimental items or props can add a personal touch to your photos. Consider bringing a blanket or outfit with special meaning to you, or a toy or accessory that you envision your baby using as they grow older. I love incorporating parents’ hobbies and professions into newborn sessions.

  1. Relax and trust the photographer

A newborn session can be stressful for new parents, but it’s important to remember to relax and trust the photographer. We have experience working with newborns and know how to handle them safely and gently. If you have any concerns or questions, don’t hesitate to ask the photographer.

A newborn photography session is a beautiful way to capture the early days of your baby’s life. By following these tips, you can help ensure a successful and enjoyable session that will provide you with cherished memories for generations to come. Congratulations again on your new addition to the family!
